The initial riff for Superminx came to me one day while I was playing with a new octave pedal I had just purchased. It was one of the very first ideas that came to me, very immediate, very organic. I was walking through the city the next week, thinking about how to break up the monotony of the riff and develop some vocal ideas and the call and response between the vocals and guitar in the verses seemed like a no brainer. The only changes from the first demo were that we jettisoned a third verse to keep it from getting too repetitive and switched some of the lyrics to keep it suitably innuendo drenched. It’s not a genius lyrical journey, but I mostly work in phonetics because I think the sound of the vocals can be more important than what they are actually saying, like they are another instrument rather than a preaching device.
